In May 2025, renowned masters Derya Türkan (Istanbul kemençesi) and Murat Aydemir (tanbur) recorded their long-awaited third album of the Ahenk series in Brussels for the Seyir Müzik label. Widely regarded as the leading figures of the golden generation of Turkish classical makam music, they carry forward the legacy of their legendary mentors, İhsan Özgen and Necdet Yaşar, with exceptional artistry and depth.
Türkan and Aydemir first met during their conservatory years and quickly formed a musical partnership that would shape the contemporary makam landscape. Their first two albums, Ahenk 1 and Ahenk 2, released between the late 1990s and early 2000s, have since become iconic reference recordings within Ottoman–Turkish classical music. After decades of acclaimed performances in Turkey and across the world, the once promising young virtuosos have matured into two noble grandmasters of their art.
With Ahenk 3, Türkan and Aydemir reaffirm their place among the most influential artists of their generation—honouring tradition while continuing to expand the expressive possibilities of makam music. Their duo remains one of the most refined and profound musical dialogues in today’s modal music scene.
